These are trucks:
They are all 4x4's, they all do what a truck needs to do, and aside from the Ford they all have v8's ('merica). All of them cost in the low to mid $30,000 range as well. Dignified, tasteful, utilitarian good 'ole trucks.
These are those same trucks, wearing fancy dresses.
Same 4x4 systems as their less flamboyant siblings, same engines, same transmissions, etc.... Just a bunch of fancy bolt on bits and decadent interiors. Some have a few different suspension bits but everything else mechanical remains the same. Chrome, big wheels, ego boosting stuff. These trucks tell the world you are willing to dump $1000's on vanity.
So how much does all that fancy, ego boostiness stuff cost? Let's take a look:
2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 WT 4X4 - $32,160
2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LTZ Z71 - $43,187 = $11,057 for crap you don't need.
2015 Dodge Ram Tradesman 4x4 - $32,495
2015 Dodge Ram Laramie Limited - $52,570 = $20,075, or a solid used c5 Corvette z06
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
2015 Toyota Tundra SR - $32,560
2015 Toyota Tundra Platinum - $49,820 = $17,260 of compensating for something.
2015 Ford F-150 XL - $36,095
2015 Ford F-150 Platinum - $59,085 = $22,990 of look at me I am better than you.
Why not save the money on the stuff you do not really need and put it to something more useful? Take up a new hobby, go on a really awesome vacation, buy a whole car, like a whole functioning car with the money you save not buying with your ego. Not buying trucks wearing fancy dresses.

Corvettes are shiny and kind of vain but that is the point of noting that one can be bought for the price of tacking on vanity to a truck. Vanity aside a 400hp car that performs well on the the track for 20k is a bargain....

LOL he mad.
Some people want chrome and leather and are willing to pay for it. If you don't want it don't buy it. Same with buying a Porsche.

Its a good realization. But some people need a truck to act as their SUV and luxury car as well as being able to cope in rough stuff. Their garage may only fit 1 car as well.

Again the point of the used Corvette, save 20k on the truck and buy a 400hp sports car. Have your cake and eat it too.

I know a lot of builders/contractors and they all have the top of the line truck. I don't blame them for wanting to be comfortable. A lot of them spend a good amount of time driving from one job site to another. I'd want to be comfortable and I also wouldn't want to be embarrassed getting stuck in the mud at a job site.

Yea I can understand there will definitely be exceptions and this will not apply to everyone but for a great deal of people who want to daily drive a truck I think it would serve them well to really sit down and crunch some numbers.

Havig driven both bare bones and luxury pickups, I can safely say that the luxury trucks are much, much nicer to live with every day.

Higher trim trucks are part of what led people to thinking that it is okay to daily drive something that is terrible on gas.

Hobbies and vacations are important. I am not saying have all the hobbies or all the vacations. Maybe take up cycling, it can be cheap and is great for your health. Or take a vacation to visit family in another state or even another country, expand your worldview and spend time with family.

For some the extra features can be justified by how much time they have to spend in the truck. In some cases their life/job revolves around spending hours in that cab every single work day. They could end up being in there for as much as 1,800 hours per year (the equivalent of not setting foot out of the cab for 2.5 months. Having personally spent multiple 24 hour days in a Super Duty on multiple occasions I can conclusively say the extra money for extra comfort is worth it if you'll have to spend a lot of time in the cab.

We both know "as well as being able to cope in rough stuff" isn't true. Most trucks (my family members included) don't do any truck activities.

Those are numbers for the 2014, the 2015 is supposed to be much better. Because of losing a lot of weight. And the Ram Ecodiesel is good for up to 28 highway.

Never said it was okay to daily drive a Corvette either.... The Corvette was just an example of a car someone who would like a high trim level truck would also like and could buy if they skimped on the truck and spent the money elsewhere.

1992 Honda Accord 276,000 miles (Daily driver). 1997 Honda Civic, turbocharged, 18mpg avg. not a "base model." 2006 Yamaha FZ6 converted to buell front end, I do spend money toys I can admit it.

Yes, I guess he drives it regularly around Lubbock Texas I think. We have a little trailer than we load up with motorcycles or whatever and tow behind our WRX. For a person that just uses the pickup bed every once in a while, the cost of the trailer isn't that much and we can drive something with a soul.

I just got a new truck, and went for the mid-level, lightly optioned.
The "work" trims are generally not nice places to be for a longer period of time. They have the cheapest seats, no adjustments for seats or steering wheel, crappy headlights, and so on and so forth. I checked out a Ram Tradesman, which didn't even have a mirror on the visor, for example.
Also, you have to take into account that there are hardly any no-options models built. Add the few *options* to the base models that everybody gets, yet also come standard on the higher trims, and the prices will be closer. Plus, trucks have a "set high MSRP and discount to sell" pricing model, so there's that to take into account.
That said, $60k for an F150 is ridiculous.

While I understand where you're coming from, I'm just going to say I'd much rather have a fancy Bose stereo and heated seats at my disposal while hauling stuff. As someone who's dad drives what's nothing more than a work truck with a couple upgrades (mostly mechanical other than the electric windows and door locks) it isn't a fun place to be for long periods of time. Having you ass coddled in buttery smooth leather and a 900-watt Alpine stereo at your disposal like in my uncle's Ram 1500 Laramie is much better.

Lemonade from Lemons after being rear-ended? Dunno. It's a full frame car with plenty of power, so I'd feel pretty good up to 2000lbs if the hitch was done right.
